Paris Je T'aime

I finally sat down and watched it. I wasn't disappointed at all. It was a lovely compilation of films.
I'm going to share with you my two favorite parts of the film.

1. Quartier de la Madeleine

WATCH IT!!

Why?: First off, vampires pwn but also because it's such an anomaly within the film that when you finally get to it it's just even that more entertaining. Young backpacker falls in love with french vampiress...what's not to love? Also, ELIJAH WOOD!!!

2. Le Marais

WATCH IT!!!

Why?: Gaspard Ulliel, he is amazing, completely magical. Also, the story itself is quite lovely. Can you imagine? Someone (who is incredibly beautiful) just coming up to you and speaking in a language you don't know and all you can do is stare at them and all the while they're telling you that they think you are their soul-mate? Also, it was the only piece of the film that featured a romance that wasn't heterosexual.

Honorable Mention: Tour Eiffel

Why?: It's just so visually pleasing.

I'll probably do a picspam later on. :D

Books

These are the books I'm currently reading for school.

The first book "We" is for my English 105 class, we focus on dystopian literature. This is our second novel (the first one was "The Handmaid's Tale", amazing by the way). Anyways, "We" is about a society in the future that is founded on mathematics. The book is definitely not something I would read for fun but it's not painful to read either, I just can't connect with it.

"We comes from God, I from the Devil."

"You are afraid of it because it is stronger than you; you hate it because you are afraid of it; you love it because you cannot subdue it to your will. Only the unsubduable can be loved."

"A human being is like a novel: until the last page you don't know how it will end. Or it wouldn't be worth reading"

The second book "The Bell Jar" is for my American Literature class. We got to ch0ose our own books for this particular part of our curriculum and I chose "The Bell Jar" because I had been dying to read it for ages and was already lying about the house since I had gotten it a month ago. It is an amazing book, I'm not quite done with it yet but it's great so far. I connect with it on so many levels that it's unbelievable. Yes, it's about a girl who has a mental breakdown and yes the author did stick her head in the oven but let me explain myself. I have a panic disorder, not anything quite as severe as portrayed in the book but, there are so many instances in the book that I have found similar to my own life. Thankfully, I am not quite as extreme as the protagonist, Esther but still the connection is there. Anyways, I highly recommend this book.

"If neurotic is wanting two mutually exclusive things at one and the same time, then I'm neurotic as hell. I'll be flying back and forth between one mutually exclusive thing and another for the rest of my days."

"I saw the days of the year stretching ahead like a series of bright, white boxes, and separating one box from another was sleep, like a black shade. Only for me, the long perspective of shades that set off one box from the next day had suddenly snapped up, and I could see day after day after day glaring ahead of me like a white, broad, infinitely desolate avenue."

"The silence depressed me. It wasn't the silence of silence. It was my own silence."

"I didn't want my picture taken because I was going to cry. I didn't know why I was going to cry, but I knew that if anybody spoke to me or looked at me too closely the tears would fly out of my eyes and the sobs would fly out of my throat and I'd cry for a week. I could feel the tears brimming and sloshing in me like water in a glass that is unsteady and too full."

SAT DAY

So, last night I didn't fall asleep until 1am, nautrally.
I woke up about an hour later than I had originally planned but whatever.
Needless to say, with about 5 hours of sleep in my system, I was exhausted. I was also hungry because the half hour I was going to spend eating a hearty breakfast was me sleeping through my alarm. I had but a piece of bread before having to leave.

So, at first I thought I wouldn't be able to make the first 45 minutes before the break, when we first started I was so hungry, but eventually I did that whole "mind over matter" thing and was able to think past the hunger.
So, the test runs from about 8am-1pm (I had to report to my room by 7:45).
that's 6 hours more or less, that is a whole school day.
That is too long.

I was the only Hispanic in my room and when the girl passed back our cell phones, my name was the only one she couldn't pronounce (in fact she didn't even bother to try, she just waved my cell phone in the air and asked who's it was).

Oh, also, I took some chocolate almonds in my hoodie so I could eat during break, one of them ended up falling in my chair and melting all over my pleather jacket, thankfully none got on my pants for that, as I was telling my friend Cynthia, would of been hard to explain.

So finally, I got out and as I was opening the door to head out, it opened for me, and a boy I hadn't seen since 8th grade stood on the other side. It took him a while to recognize me because I look so different but he did and we hugged and it was nice.

Then, I got home, planned to do homework but instead watched Marie Antoinette and took a nap. Right now, I just finished my English homework and am just being lazy. I think I deserve it, with the day I had.

3/13/09

I have a new header and orignally it was going to be the picture in this post but then I decided against it. Still, I'm not sure if I like the new header I put...anyways...

I have a mad amount of homework this weekend, as I usually do. I'm going to make a list of it because...well because it's my blog and I can. Also, I rather like making lists.
  • English 105 Critical Review on Archetypes (due. March 19)
  • Finish reading "We" (March 17)
  • 30 precal problems (I have no clue when these are due)
  • Find Historical Context behind "The Bell Jar" (March 16)
  • Finishing reading "The Bell Jar" (March 18)
  • Finish Dialectical Journals (March 16)
  • Study for American History exam (March 17)
I'm sure I'm missing something.

ALSOOOO

tomorrow I have to be at USD by 7:45am to take my SAT's, I'm quite nervous to be honest but it's not really that big of a deal since it's my first time taking them and I'm definitely planning on taking them over again. Still, I'm nervous. I've also decided not to make a big about them because I'm going to do terrible on them either way considering I've done no studying for them at all (because who has the time?), and because I'm completely menstrual and am in no state to take any exam seriously, when I'm bloated, cramping and rather crabby.

Now to stuff you might care about.

I've stumbled upon this blog a while ago and bookmarked it and just recently went back to check it out again. It's absolutely lovely and for the past two days I've spent far too much time looking through it.
Even if you aren't into fashion blogs I think you might find the blog very inspiring. So please clickclickclick: WISHWISHWISH

Coffee Mugs

My friend Cynthia and I are always going on about how we're going to move to San Fran and get a little tiny studio and just go to school and live awesomely intellectual bohemian lives. We also always talk about how our place is going to look and how we're going to make it liveable...considering we're realistic and realize it's going to be VERY small. Anyways, I was telling her how every time I go to Ross with my mother I always wander off to where all the little porcelain figures, teapots, and coffee mugs are at and how I'm most excited to buy mugs to drink our coffee from. So I went online and found these that I really liked. :D

Re-watching Marie Antoinette. I admit that I like this movie solely for it's aesthetics. I mean...if I put it on mute I could get the same satisfaction from it if it wasn't on mute.

Kristen Dunst is great as usual and Jason Shwartz is incredibly endearing. I love him and his brother Robert. The movie it's self is okay, nothing special but just look at all the PRETTTYYY.
